Message from the President

Grounded in Excellence, Geared for Growth

Greetings to all staff, students, valued stakeholders, partners, alumni, and friends of Western Pacific University (WPU).

As we reflect on our journey in 2026, we celebrate a significant milestone in the history of our university. This year marks ten years of WPU’s development from ground zero and six years of academic programme delivery, a period characterized by growth, resilience, innovation, and a steadfast commitment to serving Papua New Guinea. What began as a bold vision to provide quality, accessible, and future-focused higher education has evolved into a dynamic institution that continues to transform lives and communities.

Our theme, “Grounded in Excellence, Geared for Growth,” captures both our achievements and our aspirations. Over the past decade, we have laid strong foundations in governance, infrastructure, technology-enhanced learning, research, and student success. We have embraced digital transformation as a catalyst for learning and innovation while strengthening academic quality and relevance in all that we do.

As we look beyond 2026 and into 2027 and the years ahead, WPU will continue its journey toward academic excellence through the introduction of innovative programmes, strengthened industry partnerships, impactful research, and the expanded use of digital technologies. We remain committed to preparing graduates who are adaptive, ethical, enterprising, and equipped to lead in an increasingly complex and interconnected world. Our focus will be on building a university that is future-oriented, inclusive, and responsive to the emerging needs of our nation and the Pacific region.

I extend my sincere appreciation to every member of the WPU community whose dedication, hard work, and belief in our mission have made this progress possible. Together, we will continue to shape a university that serves with purpose and transforms through knowledge.

I wish you all continued success, good health, and prosperity in the years ahead.

“The future is not something we inherit; it is something we create. What we choose to build today through knowledge, innovation, and service will define the relevance, impact, and purpose of Western Pacific University for generations to come.”

Under the theme: Grounded in Excellence, Geared for Growth, we affirm our aspiring role to be Papua New Guinea’s premier digital university—one that is firmly rooted in quality while boldly expanding its horizons.

Our foundation remains unwavering: academically rigorous programmes, a culture of integrity, and a learning environment that empowers students to think critically, act ethically, and innovate confidently. We deepen this commitment through strengthened quality assurance processes, enhanced curriculum relevance, and expanded digital learning capabilities that support every learner, regardless of background or location.

Message from the Vice President Student Services & Administrative Affairs

Welcome to the Future of Higher Education in Papua New Guinea where Minds are Challenged and Potentials are Unlocked as we are Grounded in Excellence, Geared for Growth.

As individuals created in the Image and Likeness of God (Gen. 1:26-27), we view our inner selves as a fertile nursery to cultivate personal transformation and achieve the impossible. We grow through Four Core Principles that derived from the Western Pacific University’s Core Values, Mission and Vision:

  • Embracing Impermanence: Navigating life's constant changes with a creative mind by imparting values to our students and groom them to become servant leaders to serve as a transformative force and shape the future landscape of Papua New Guinea.
  • Cultivating Self-Compassion: Facing hardships with kindness to maintain and promote social harmony (Gutpela Sindaun) through diversity in unity by transforming our students to actively aligned to bridge today's learning with tomorrow's national development.
  • Living with Maximum Impact & Minimum Ego: Humbling ourselves to build deeper connections with God and Country in serving humanity through the enhancement of our designed industry-benchmarked programs in science, technology, and business management that enriched our students the critical skills required to navigate a globalized economy.
  • Accepting Reality through Responsibility: Recognizing that our rights are balanced by institutional rules and structural accountability with student support systems dedicated to nurturing not just skilled professionals, but ethical, innovative leaders.

Together, we nurture these Core Principles as seeds in our inner selves like a fertile nursery in the Image and Likeness of God and commit ourselves fully to Integral Human Development by serving God and our Country the Melanesian Way.

University Advancement

Message from the Vice President University Advancement

Welcome to Western Pacific University. As we look ahead to Academic Year 2027, our commitment remains firmly anchored in academic rigor, administrative efficiency, and purposeful community engagement. Guided by our institutional motto, Pro Deo et Patria (For God and Country), Western Pacific University does not simply adapt to the rapidly evolving higher education landscape—we actively shape it through deliberate strategy, modern infrastructure, and dedicated service to our nation and higher calling.

University Advancement serves as the bridge between institutional vision and operational reality. Over the past year, our focus has been centered on solidifying the core pillars that support our academic community: expanding strategic industry partnerships, digitizing vital operational systems, and elevating campus safety and governance.

Looking forward to AY 2027, we are translating these strong foundations into expanded opportunities for our students and faculty. The upcoming integration of our campus-wide Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) platform and revamped digital learning frameworks will streamline academic administration, ensuring seamless service delivery. Meanwhile, our expanding portfolio of national and international collaborations—spanning key industry sectors, digital technology clusters, and specialized academies like our newly established Teaching and Learning & Drone Academies—ensures our academic programs remain directly aligned with national workforce requirements and global standards.

Growth, however, is meaningful only when built upon stability, ethical values, and shared purpose. In living out Pro Deo et Patria, we continue to invest deeply in our people—our greatest asset. Through professional upskilling, leadership initiatives such as our campus Toastmasters program, and proactive community peacebuilding, we are fostering a culture where integrity, professional competence, and mutual respect thrive. Furthermore, ongoing investments in dynamic campus infrastructure, and modern learning spaces ensure a safe, vibrant environment conducive to study and research.

As Vice President for University Advancement, I invite our students, staff, industry partners, and community stakeholders to actively participate in this next chapter of our journey. Together, we will continue to build a progressive, resilient, and forward-looking university that serves as a beacon of quality education and innovation for Papua New Guinea and the broader region.

Research & Innovation

Message from the Vice President Research & Innovation

Elevating Our Impact: Research, Writing, and Innovation Toward 2027

As we look toward the horizon of 2027, our collective ambition must be matched by our scholarly output. Driving meaningful change requires more than great ideas—it demands active research, rigorous writing, and strategic proposal development.

The Engine of Discovery: Active Research

  • Innovation begins in the field, the lab, and the archives. Active, sustained research is the lifeblood of our academic community. By asking bold questions and pushing disciplinary boundaries, we generate new knowledge that addresses real-world challenges as we shape our agenda for 2027 and beyond. However, discovery alone is not enough; it must be shared to drive progress.

Securing the Future: Proposal Writing

  • To sustain our vision and meet our upcoming strategic goals, we must secure the resources necessary to fuel our ambitions. Proposal writing is a vital catalyst. Crafting compelling grant applications allows us to turn visionary concepts into funded realities, supporting our students, equipping our laboratories, and fostering cross-disciplinary collaborations. Every successful proposal expands our capacity to lead and innovate on a global scale.

Shaping the Global Conversation: Publishing

  • Finally, writing and publishing our findings ensures that our work reaches beyond campus borders. Publication is how we validate our discoveries, contribute to the global academic dialogue, and elevate our institutional standing heading into 2027. Whether through peer-reviewed journals, books, or policy briefs, your voice matters in shaping the future of your field.

I encourage every researcher both academic and students to view these three pillars not as separate administrative duties, but as a unified cycle of impact as we build toward 2027: discover through research, fund through proposals, and influence through publishing.
