Bachelor of Science in Artificial Intelligence
A defining feature of the programme is its strong commitment to Responsible Artificial Intelligence. Ethics, privacy, fairness, cybersecurity, human-centred technology, governance, professional responsibility and the public interest are progressively developed throughout all six semesters, not treated as an afterthought.
Students also learn to consider AI through the realities and opportunities of Papua New Guinea and the wider Pacific. Through applied projects, research and the final capstone, they explore how responsible AI can contribute to areas such as agriculture and food security, health, education, climate resilience, disaster management, government, business, language technologies and community development.

About BSc. AI Programme
The Bachelor of Science in Artificial Intelligence (BScAI) at Western Pacific University is a forward-looking undergraduate degree designed to prepare a new generation of AI professionals, innovators and technology leaders for Papua New Guinea, the Pacific and an increasingly intelligent digital world.
Artificial Intelligence is transforming how people work, communicate, learn, conduct business, deliver public services and solve complex problems. WPU's BScAI goes beyond teaching students how to use AI. It develops the scientific, mathematical, computational and professional knowledge required to understand, design, build, evaluate, deploy and responsibly govern intelligent systems.
Across three years of full-time study, students progress from foundations in programming, mathematics, data, algorithms and computational thinking to machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, computer vision, Generative AI and Large Language Models, robotics and autonomous systems, cloud AI and MLOps, and advanced and emerging AI technologies.

Why study the Program?
Students, who study computer programming, will be practicing a variety of high-level programming languages, as well as technology in troubleshooting.
Learn the Technologies Shaping the Future
Develop practical and theoretical capabilities across the rapidly evolving AI landscape. The curriculum is designed as a progression: students first master the mathematical, programming, data and computational foundations before moving into advanced AI development, deployment and innovation.
Become a Responsible AI Professional
The future needs professionals who can do more than build powerful technology. It needs people who understand its consequences.
Graduates will be prepared to ask not only "Can we build it?" but also "Should we build it, who will it serve, and how can we ensure it is responsible, secure and beneficial?"
Create AI Solutions for Papua New Guinea, the Pacific and the World
This gives graduates the opportunity to become not simply consumers of technologies developed elsewhere, but creators, researchers, entrepreneurs and leaders capable of shaping AI for our own region and contributing internationally.
